Class room discussion on the Roma of Europe

Waiting for the children's camp to preform.

Mission U is the new name for School of Christian Mission.
Mission U events are held each summer in almost every conference.
Each Mission u offers classes on a geographic area, social issue and a spiritual growth focus.
This years studies focus on the Roma people, poverty, and living sacramentally, walking justly.
Classes are offered for adults, youth and children.
Studies are on a two-year cycle, Roma people will be offered again next year along
with another new topic.
Books are available year-round, and previous year's studies are also available from our new e-store: www.umwmissionresources.org.
All four of us took the Roma in Europe class, so we have the resources if you would like to borrow them for your circle program.

This was a great time, the classes were informative and thought provoking, the food was delicious and plentiful and weather was just awesome!!
I recommend that you really think about attending next year. There is also sampler held on the Saturday, after the 4 day session, which is a way to participate in Mission U.

May Events

Mother Daughter Tea

The Tea was a success, we had a wonderful time making hats, enjoying a jazz trio and partaking in tea, sandwiches and desserts.  This year money made from the Tea will be helping with the Youth Choir Tour later this month.  The Choir helped with set up, serving, and washing all the tea cups!  Thank you all for making this a wonderful event.

Kids Against Hunger

Saturday, May 11th, Valparaiso First United Methodist sponsored a packing event.  We had many of our UMW members helping with the packing and also we along with the METS group work the refreshment station.
At this church wide event we had 233 volunteers, packed 42,180 meals.  Of these meals 4 pallets will go to Guatemala, were this June a group of adults and youth are going on a mission trip.  40 cases went to Northwest Indiana Food Bank.  8 cases went to Broadway Christian Parish in South Bend IN, 5 cases were delivered to the Christian Food Pantry and 10 cases to the Hilltop Food Pantry, both of Valparaiso, along with snack packs our under 10 children packed during the event.

Does any one else see a hat theme going on this month?

Let's see what type of hats show up at book club this month at 6:00 p.m. in the parlor on May 16th discussing When Christians Get It Wrong   by Adam Hamilton

March sales at The Shop   were just under $3800.  This is a huge number and represents a great comeback from our February slump.  People have been buying the spring/summer merchandise like there is no tomorrow!  Although we are very well stocked in most areas, we welcome additional donations of linens, such as towels, as well as men's wear, especially light weight jackets.

We thank all of you who continue to shop, donate  and support the UMW Resale Shop.
